What to take after Spanish V

Hello! I’m currently a junior in Spanish 5, which is the highest Spanish course that my school offers. I plan to double up on math senior year (BC calc and AP stat) as well as take AP’s in all the other core courses (science, english, history), but will it hurt me in the college admissions process not to do a language senior year? For reference, I’m planning on applying to schools in the 15%-35% acceptance rate range (NYU, Boston College, Northeastern) and my GPA is higher than previous successful applicants from my school. I also plan to major in PoliSci if that means anything.

Most of us know the answer but do some quick research and figure it out - go look up the foreign language requirements/expectations for the colleges you are planning to apply to.

Not if you’ve completed the 5th year of Spanish.

If you’ve taken the equivalent of four years of Spanish, you should be fine. I’m guessing that your middle school Spanish counts as a year of your total Spanish and that you’ve received credit for it. My kids’ high school did this, for example.

You can check what your colleges require, which is typically 2-4 years, depending on the college. If you’re in doubt, this is a good question to ask an admissions officer. Bear in mind too that the college will see your high school’s profile and will know that Spanish 5 is the highest level offered. You can’t take more than what they offer.

You can also talk with your guidance counselor about possibly taking dual enrollment Spanish at a local community college, if you are really keen to keep improving.
