What are the main items you would have to pack in to take to college if you are an international student. I mean the space constraint thing on an airplane could pose as a problem.

Depends on your finances. My college roommate arrived in Massachusetts from California with a suitcase of clothes suitable for New England in the fall, a mandolin, a typewriter, and a credit card. This was back in the stone age when you couldn’t put your whole “record collection” on a tiny device in your shirt pocket, so she did have to leave her records home.

She got what she needed on arrival. Bedding, clothing suitable to the weather as it changed, etc. You would probably want to substitute a laptop for the typewriter. Use your own discretion on the mandolin.

I would order most of your stuff through places like Bed, Bath and Beyond and pick them up when you get on campus. The stuff you should take with you would be things like clothes. Basically, get as much as you can (within reason) in the US and store it over the summer.
