I'm going to be a freshman next year at Notre Dame--I am very excited! I was just wondering what girls wear during each season (I'm not 100% familiar with Indiana weather...). Thanks in advance :)

i’m going to be a freshman next year too!
i’m not sure of the weather but i bought a really thick north face jacket and boots for the winter.
i hear its very cold

Indiana weather is essentially winter from November to April.

Just visited this past weekend… Northface fleece, with a waterproof wind breaker or heavy jacket on top. A lot of people wear sweatpants or track pants constantly. Invest in good boots and wool socks, as well as rain boots for spring.

Right now, it’s 44 degrees in South Bend. Unseasonably cold for spring, even for northwest Indiana. (But, to be fair, it WAS 80+ degrees on April 10, and quite a few runners in the Holy Half Marathon on campus that day had to be treated for heat exhaustion or dehydration.) Every girl on campus seems to own at least one pair of Uggs boots, plus one pair of colorful rain boots. The landscaping crews do a terrific job clearing paths, walkways, and stairs, so you will only need boots to keep your feet warm or fashionable, not to trudge through two feet of snow. Add the North Face jacket, and some kind of gloves that will allow you to text in the cold, and you’ll be all set. :)

North Face jacket + Ugg Boots/Rain boots = the attire for like 90% of girls at ND during the winter.

Do girls have to wear leggings and thermals to keep warm? I had this q too. I mean I was there for two days to talk with the admit counselor and learn more about the school, bt I was always freezing n grateful to run into a building. Is wearing scarves a big thing there?

We don’t have to wear them to keep warm but I do see a lot of girls wearing them, leggings at least. I see that you’re coming from Southern California, so you may have to bundle up a bit more to stay warm if you’re not used to the weather like I am, haha.

Depending on when you came, that could have been a typical winter day or it could have been one of the really cold days we had. There was a stretch where it was really uncommonly cold (which happens from time to time in the winter while other winters, it doesn’t get that cold).

As far as scarves, I see quite a lot girls wearing them when it’s really cold. During the really cold days, I wore a scarf myself. Honestly, if you don’t like the cold, just hope that you have a schedule that doesn’t make you walk very far. This past semester I had to walk from off campus lot (on the other side of the stadium) to Flanner Hall which is basically on the opposite side of campus. It was at least a ten minute walk and was in the morning so it was soo cold, haha.

I’m a high school senior and am going to be attending Notre Dame in the fall, but was raised in Minnesota. Winters here, as many know, are brutal, so the North Face coat/Ugg boots fashion for girls is popular here as well. I’ve also travelled around the midwest a little bit during the colder months (Wisconsin, Michigan, etc.), and have found that winters in these areas are more or less the same. However, I would say that if you can survive a Minnesota winter, you’ll be set to live anywhere.

kk448 thanks for the insight, maybe since i’m from socal, maybe i just get colder more easily. I started to get used to it a little the second day i was there.

Now i’m glad i know what to buy to stay warm/kinda fashionable there.
