I was wondering what is appropriate for a girl to wear to the admit day at SPS (I know that it says on the letter but what do people usually wear, as I don't want to come underdressed by mistake) or any other admit day!

The first and foremost thing to do is to be comfortable with what you’re wearing. Spend some time picking out an outfit that you like the look of, feels comfortable, and fits well. Next, you’ll want to make sure your outfit fits with the dress code at the school, which should be easy to find. If you are attending a revisit where there isn’t much of a dress code, wear what you might wear to school or out to a family dinner at a nice restaurant. Lastly, you’ll want to make sure, if you are the sort of person who doesn’t care for attention, that your outfit is relatively neutral. Again, wear something you feel comfortable in, but, unless you’re a super-confident person, this might not be the day to wear a hand-dyed t-shirt with a maxi skirt and thigh-high Converse.

@pdl100 thanks so much! do you think dark jeans and converse would be inappropriate? I don’t really own anything too formal! (the jeans look more like dark pants)

I’d wear something that you like that’s comfortable, but I’d make sure it’s in dress code. If you don’t currently own anything that fits in the dress code, I’d start shopping.

I think, in that case, it’s really supposed to go with the dress code. I know of some schools where you can’t wear jeans or sneakers (and Converse do count). At that point, you need to check the dress code. If they say nothing against that plan, I might dress it up a bit with a nice shirt or blouse and a pair of flats or boots.

There are many places to get affordable clothes for a revisit. I know that many schools, particularly if you talk to students, will say you can get away with breaking the dress code. However, you do not want to break the dress code on your revisit day.

Look for the handbook on each school’s web site. Follow the appropriate dress code for the time of year. If they school says otherwise (e.g. casual for part of the event) then follow that. The default is dress code.
