I know this might be the wrong section to post this up on, but I figured I'd post it up anyways. So, basically, I was wondering what top schools give out merit based scholarships, cause I heard that schools like Harvard don't usually (or ever) give out scholarships...so, if people could just clarify what schools do and don't give out merit scholarships. Thanks :)

Very few tippy-top schools do, and the scholarships are typically very competitive. Duke has a few, as do Chicago and Emory off the top of my head.

i know Washington Univ. in St.Louis does too
but very few & very competitive

I believe Vandy does as well.

Thanks for the responses.

So so far we have Vanderbilt, UofChicago, Emory, Washington U in St. Louis, and Duke.

I also heard that UNC-Chapel Hill, Tulane, USC, and Johns Hopkins are also pretty generous.

No Ivy league gives merit scholarships, and neither do Notre Dame nor Northwestern, and I don’t think Stanford, MIT or Cal Tech do either. I think your list is pretty accurate with regard to the schools named; that is that Chicago, WUSTL and Duke have them but very tought to get. I am not sure how generous Vandy and Emory are. UNC I would look into the split of in state and OOS, I just don’t know. Is Johns Hopkins generous? That surprises me some. Tulane definitely is, and Miami (FL) is another that gives a lot of scholarships.

Tulane gives great merit aid: around 35% of admittees get merit aid.

Rice University and University of Michigan both give merit aid: but you’d have to be in the top 10% of the applicant pool, preferably higher, if you want a large sum of aid.
