Do they pretty much all use macs?

I had a similar question, I heard most kids use macs in college period, what about SEAS students though? Seems harder to have all the software on a mac without needing to pay for a Windows Partition

Honestly, people use a variety. Some use Macs, others PCs. I have seen Lenovo and Think pads as the most common laptops used for engineers.

Penn is a Chromebook Pixel school, through and through. People get dirty looks if they’re on any other laptop.

In my freshman seminar last semester 13 kids had MacBooks (including Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, and regular MacBooks), 2 had PCs, and 1 had a Chromebook. Though I have seen an overwhelming amount of Macs (sometimes I feel like I’m in an Apple Store), I still see plenty of PCs. It doesn’t really matter what you choose because there is software available for all of the computers. I even know plenty of engineers with Macs. Just go with what you like and can afford, and please don’t feel the need to buy the $2,500 Macbook Pro Retina (unless you want it/can afford it), the $1,000 (with student discount) is just fine.

More and more engineers/hard science students have been using apple computers because you have the unix terminal. I work in a group that does a lot of computational work on supercomputers and while the desktops are Linux, we use apple laptops. If you don’t want to get an apple, then another option would be to install Linux on your laptop or get something like a chrome book. The windows operating system is much harder to use for things involving the terminal.
