I can’t afford many schools for undergrad and the school I’m at only has so many psych courses. I was wondering on chances to get into a psych counseling masters program with a social work undergrad degree with some psych classes what psych classes do I typically need to take?
thank you
It depends on the specific program you are looking at.
Well, if you have a social work undergrad degree, the next logical step may be for you to get a master’s in social work (MSW). If you want to do psychological counseling, you can do that with an MSW if you become a licensed clinical social worker.
However, you should check out master’s in mental health counseling programs to be sure. I’ve visited a few that suggest that a bachelor’s in psychology is not necessary and that a major in social work would satisfy the requirement.
(Also, you are looking for a master’s in mental health counseling. A general master’s in psychology, or in clinical psychology, won’t allow you to practice.)
