What undergrad course should I take?

Hi I'm like really lost right now because I first set my mind on some biz-related degree and then a lot of people are saying that it's a useless degree for an undergrad :/

So here's a list of what I want to do in the future/career paths that I'm interested in:

1 Start up my own business (creating my own products and/or importing goods)

2 Play the stock market

3 Work in the government (specifically like in education planning or anything related to education)

3 Become an ambassador or work in the foreign sector

4 Work in the UN

any kind souls out there, could u please recommend a course/major/whatever that is REQUIRED for me to do those jobs? And could u also recommend a course that would be HELPFUL for me to succeed in these jobs eventho they r NOT REQUIRED for entering those jobs? :)

Btw, I'm more of a Maths/science-y person and im not really good in the artsy stuff (like humanities and language, unless they require critical and systematic thinking) but all of my career choices are not related to Maths/science. Will this be a problem for me? :/

Thank you so much

I wouldn’t say it’s useless. Given your wide range of interests, a lot of people (me included) will suggest a LAC which others will claim is just as useless. I think it might be better for you to focus on schools that have programs in international studies and economics/business with an entrepreneurial slant. You can find such combinations in small and large schools so you need to consider what you can afford and then your preference for size, location, etc.

Designing your own products is typically an engineering problem, and engineering uses math and science.

Playing the stock market does not need a specific education, although you need money. Some knowledge of economics and business is helpful, of course. But if you want to work in the finance industry, the credential criteria is much higher.

For education, you could major in math or science with a goal of teaching it (would need a teaching credential for high school level, or an advanced degree for college level).

Finance/Economics

International Relations

Where do you expect to complete your university-level education? In the US? Elsewhere? The country, and its higher education system may have a large effect on your choice of field of study.

Sadilly
Thank you. But what’s LAC?

Ucbalumnus

What kind of credentials r needed for the financial industry?
And when I meant education I didnt mean teaching. More towards like planning the curriculum, running the school, etc

Thank you for ur reply

Thank you, barrk123

Do u happen to know what’s the diff btwn biz and Econs? In terms of both the curricula and work prospects. :)

Happymomof1

Most probably the US. Or UK. Or HK. Or Sg.
Would you mind elaborating what you mean? :)

Thank u for ur reply
