What undergraduate major should I choose to pursue medicine?

I am currently confused as to what majors are good to prepare well for the MCAT. I am mostly inclined to choose Biochemistry for most colleges, however for my second choice major, I don’t know if I should choose Psychology BA, Psychology BS, or Chemistry/Biology. Advice or help?

Any major is fine as long as you do all the required premed coursework. Take some classes and see where your interests and aptitudes lie.

Choose something you really enjoy because you’re likely to do better in something you love.

Make sure it’s something that works well for your Plan B if med school doesn’t work out for you due to changing interests or not getting accepted (currently fewer than half the applicants get accepted anywhere).

Your pre-med courses will sort of prepare you for the MCAT. Your studying for the MCAT will do more. Whatever major you choose is irrelevant.

Do whatever major you like and passionate. Be open that your interest may change. Also important to choose a major where you can get some job to make a living.
Roughly 120 credits and any major is around 40-60 credits. So you will have enough window to do any pre-req course related to medicine and what your college pre-med office mandates to get committee letter. Always there is a trade off when you select major since some courses are over lapped with pre-med but others helps you to expose to different aspects of learning and it may trigger your interest elsewhere.

Definitely choose something that you are interested in. At my university, the most popular pre-med major is neuroscience. However, there are so many admitted medical students that pursued their bachelor’s degree in business, English, or any other major.

Any major you can do well in (high GPA,) you’re interested in, and can comfortably complete the pre-med requirements with.

Any major will do. Medical schools do not care as long as you have met their pre-requisites. Psychology (BA/BS) may be easier than science majors (Biology/Biochemistry/Chemistry). Both chemistry and biochemistry may require you to take Calculus III as a pre-requisite for upper level classes in major.

In same boat here. Leaning towards Biomed Engineering as Premed based on interest. Just cautious of GPA impact in Engineering school and also additional workload that may impact MCAT prep in later years.

Physics and Mathematics will overlap with your Engineering requirements. Biology (2 semesters), General Chemistry (2 semesters), Organic Chemistry (2 semesters), Biochemistry(1 semester), Psychology, Sociology, Statistics may be additional requirements outside the engineering major. MCAT requires dedicated preparation beyond these courses.
