What was the class of 2018 acceptance rate?

Anybody know? I'm just curious, and it seems that UChicago hasn't released it yet.

What does it really matter?

All indications are somewhere around 9%, depending on what ultimately happens with the waitlist. At the moment, the rate seems to be around 8.5%, based on very conservative assumptions (because they are really, really space-constrained). If those assumptions prove to be not-so-conservative, the admission rate will stay there. If, as expected, they will ultimately have to go to the waitlist to fill the class, it will rise towards 9%.

^^ Apparently it does matter to some one, including you JHS and perhaps Cue7?

The dorm shortage may affect this year’s admission rate as well as yield. We shall see.

The fact that I think I know what it is doesn’t mean that I think it matters.

Of course it matters in some broad scope. The difference between this year’s rate, whatever it is, and the rate 10 years ago (about 40%) does matter. But whether this year’s rate is 7%, 8%, 9%, or 10% doesn’t matter at all. No one should be deciding whether to apply or not based on those kinds of differences, and even the people at USNWR who use admission rates in their college rankings give it a very low weighting. On other threads, some people are crowing that Stanford has “blown Harvard out of the water” because its admission rate this year was half a point lower. How dumb is that?

I heard it was 8.3%. Does anybody know for sure?

All the indications point to that number, 8.3% overall acceptance rate for the Class of 2018. But we need to wait for The University to make an official announcement for that.

I bet, it will not be announced until the new class of 2018 profile is uploaded.

nondorf announced at nyc reception 8.3 overall, 4% regular, 1506 sat, and over 200 applicants from stuyvesant hight school, some kind of record.

The Chicago Maroon (UChicago’s student-run newspaper) just tweeted this out:

“BREAKING: UChicago’s undergraduate admissions rate is 8.38% for the class of 2018, down from 8.8% for the class of 2017.”
