I hate college ads that say "We'll teach you how to think." I like my thinking already, thank you very much.
I also hate college ads that show it as a utopia where learning magically takes place, and also a utopia for "discovering yourself," etc etc
And most of all, I hate how college ads make it look like that going to their college entitles you to a better life.

Amen to that. The amount of mail is pretty ridiculous too. All the flyers and letters must work for someone, or else they wouldn’t do it, but they’ve been pretty much useless to me.

Haha, there’s also like “You are special” or “Come here, we’ll change your life” etc. that’s super annoying. And I hate how all the people in the college brochures who are supposed to be college students look past 30 at the least.

My favorite is the ones that try to personalize their cards or letters. Like I got one from UChicago that had the Chicago skyline and a clearly animated hot-air balloon with my name in big letters across it, like seriously?

Fortunately, on the PSAT I accidentally added a character in my e-mail account, so I’ve never gotten a college e-mail, but the ‘snail mail’ has still continued.

I got that same mail! I’ve been getting a lot of mail from UChicago, including a lot of packets and viewbooks. All seems like a cheesy marketing campaign for susceptible 17 year olds that if they can see through it, do they really need college to make sense of the world?

^I was going to say the same thing! Like I live in Pennsylvania and I got flyers from USC and WashU saying ‘Summer is the perfect time to visit us!’ And I’m like ok cool wanna pay for my airfare and hotel?

I love how they write their mailings the exact way they don’t want us to write our essays.

But it’s flawed, just like everyone’s thinking. I mean, I hope I don’t spend all my life thinking like a seventeen-year-old.
I understand what you mean, though. I don’t want to be told what to think about controversial topics.

Whatever way gets us closest to truth, as far as human perception is amenable to truth at all.
It’s not as if we can’t have a standard. I mean, we have moral standards even though everyone falls short of them once in awhile. I’m not saying everyone’s thinking is equally flawed.

Only the colleges I’m not interested in fill my mailbox and inbox everyday, while the ones I wanna go to send maybe 1 or 2 messages a month, if that.

^Agreed. And I can almost guarantee they use models. Why would they not? If you’re trying to recruit people, you want good-looking people to represent you. You can’t pick the best-looking models or else its not realistic, but they do a good job picking handsome and pretty people to be on their handouts.

Now if they’re trying to portray specific events, like football games or pep rallies or frat houses, then they’ll use actual students because duh, but otherwise those people you see huddled together smiling in a classroom are paid.
