Hey everyone! I'm going into my junior year so I took the June SAT. I was kind of relying on this test score to foreshadow my Junior year PSAT score. As a sophomore I got a 213, which in my state was high enough to be a national merit scholar, but it won't count until I'm a junior. From what people told me that meant I should get a 2130 on the SAT, but to my horror I looked at my scores this morning and found out i got a 1990! Does this mean I would have gotten a 199 PSAT, is that really how the two tests correlate? Because I really hope not.

This is how the two broke down
PSAT-2007
CR-76
Math-64
Writing-73

SAT-2008
CR-630
Math-680
Writing-680

I really want to get a good PSAT score, but I need to know...is there hope for me with those scores?

Also, if I got a 1990 on the SAT, what would that predict for my ACT?

You can definitely get yourself up to the semilfinalist cutoff. The PSAT is generally easier than the SAT, due to the lack of an essay and the shorter time length involved. I'm not sure whether there's much of a difficulty difference in the actual questions, but I'm sure the SAT is at least slightly harder.

Just get yourself a PSAT prep book and go through the things that you are weak in (for example, I reviewed common grammar errors, etc.). Either Kaplan or Princeton Review are great. It looks like you need to work on math a little bit, so just spend a little time and you'll be fine.

The PSAT is basically a practice test for the SAT which is usually taken well after taking the PSAT. What you get on the PSAT does not necessarily predict anything about what you will do on the SAT and vice versa. Many score in different ranges on the two tests. Also, many can do so-so on the SAT by taking it too early in high school, i.e, before Spring of junior year, although the score you have is actually good for large majority of colleges. What you do on the SAT also may vary significantly as to how well you do on the ACT and "predicting" how you will do is an exercise in speculation.

I went through about 7-9 practice tests and a CR book to get my 2190. I know my friend went through a LOT more, and she got a 2370. Generally I do better in school, but I can't be bothered to do so many 3 hour practice tests, its just NOT ME.

So if you want a higher score, i recommend buying a book to cover your weak points. (my CR score jumped 70 points after buying a book on CR) and doing practice tests every week.

adamonkey2, mostly I took knew I was already pretty good at the reading got (770 on my 1st time on the SAT). So, I didn't do those sections in the practice test. Instead I put all my effort into doing the math and writing sections.

The fact that I had a very hard english class helped a ton :)
