Creativity:

Michaelangelo and his early helicopter designs

Scientists and space technology

Cure for AIDS

basically I talked about practicality vs. creativity and how it must be balanced.

Creativity:

Michaelangelo and his early helicopter designs

Scientists and space technology

Cure for AIDS

basically I talked about practicality vs. creativity and how it must be balanced.

Creativity:

Count of Monte Cristo - Edmond's very creative and completely awesome revenge
Wright Brothers - the plane...lol
Neil Armstrong - And those NASA people also...

Ah! But the prompt caught me by surprise so I couldn't use any of my prepared examples. Hence... no details! Also....... I finished in the middle of a sentence. Anger....

The Princeton Review's last Diagnostic's essay prompt was MAJORITY RULE! I was just reading the Mar12 thread in disbelief... why couldn't I live in the East?

Majority rule -- I took the "observations/experiences" part seriously...

... that is, I used the example of school elections for Student Council and developed that by showing how, in my personal experiences, I've seen that the majority's opinion is often the plausible one, and that using the majority in elections is a good idea because I've observed how the elected person really is the one that has the best ideas of how to lead and improve.

Also, I wrote about how I've seen that the popular opinion/idea often is the one that is applicable and, really, "doable" (that's not the word I used, though) in terms of the student body voting on issues in the school (dance themes, etc.).

What do you think? As I read some of your examples, I'm beginning to think mine aren't so good.

Majority Rule
1. Isolationism in Pre-World War II America
2. Persecution of Meursault from Albert Camus's The Stranger
3. Prohibition

creativity... i actually refuted the argument

wrote like, the most important time for creativity was when the microchip was invented, cuz if it wasnt invented, then we'd all still be extremely undeveloped and living simply. basically, i got a "1" on the essay.

Majority rule: I took the stance that the opinion of the majority is largely irrelevent and tends to bend with strong leaders, so I had two completely different examples (my paragraphs are always too long to fit five in the SAT space): how the Democrats who controlled pre-Civil War and post-Reconstruction South influenced majority opinion on slavery/civil rights, and how Ghandi was such a strong leader that he influenced the majority opinion in a very positive way. I wish I could have came up with something better than Ghandi, but I was too lazy to really think about it.

Majority: I used John C. Calhoun and the "concurrent majority" and Galileo/Copernicus vs. the Catholic Church

Creativity: yes, it's important.
Galileo
Walt Whitman

how the revolutionary ideas came about becuase of going against majority, i.e. john locke, his ideas and how they brought bouat frencha and american revolution

2nd example was philosophy of how majority affects peoples minds. i.e. school elections and how if everyone raises their hands for someone, if ur the one person against them ull just raise ur hadns allso and how elections are not always fiar bc they are usually based on popularity or freindships. if u see someone u like or ur friends voting for someone u vote for that person two. whole idea about how u no longer think for urself.

i hope those are good enough i dunno maybe uniquq or sumtin cuase ididn't get to proff and i only started writign 7 min in, though i did get most of the second page, but i probably left out words or had unclear sentences cause i went so fast :(

These are the examples I used for the creativity prompt (are they originial?):
-Military Technology/Tactics (mentioned the importances of airplane/atomic bomb in winning wars; also talked about the innovtation of guerrila warfare & some other things)
-Business (large corporate competition + smaller companies have to be even more creative b/c they cant compete w/ prices & need to have their own unique niches like customer service etc
-Families: more divorces, drugs, bad influences than ever, so parents have to be more creative than ever to hold families together.

Are these "top notch" for a 6?

i used the wright brothers too. go us

I had the "creativity" essay and I pretty much blew it. I only wrote three paragraphs out of five (one was my intro, one was on Huxleys Brave New World, and the other was on my completely made up experience at a ballet). I didn't do the third example I talked about in my thesis or a conclusion. Otherwise, I think I did pretty well on the rest of the test. Do you think I should cancel my score?

Sorry if this question didn't fit the thread. I'm just worrying about how much this will affect my score. Does anyone know?

majority rules:
Rise of democracy and prosperity in the United States and Japan after tyrants (singles rule) was overthrown. Backed it up with the growth of democracy being 1.5 countries per year

Jaimie: You can still get a 4 or 5 (possible 6...but it's unlikely) on the essay w/ only 3 paragraphs. A "4" will only hurt you abt 40-50 points (compared to a 6). So unless you were shooting for a perfect I definitely don't think it's bad enough to cancel.

Plus, everybody had a hard time with the creativity prompt...the 6-5-4 curve may be generous.

I talked about absolute vs relative morality, then naziism, and then finished w/ some stuff from Zgmunt Baumen - a philosopher specializing in state institutionalized morals (more or less)... all in all, it was pretty good... Though i like my prx test essay question more - difference between knowledge and wisdom - Yay socrates!

You guys are making ME nervous about my daughter's essay. She had the creativity one and said she used the following examples:

personal experience: the fact that she has to wear a uniform to school but creatively tries to sneak in her own touches so she is still an individual in a society that doesn't value individuality/creativity.

Henry Ford and his factory, industrial standardization, which she said works in terms of economics but doesn't lead to new ideas

Kate Chopin's The Awakening and how the fact that society's expectations stiffled the main characters creative urges which led her to commit suicide.

Ugh. Well, guess she'll be retaking it in May!

........what are you talking about.... im sure at least 90 percent of ppl on this board will have 5's or better....besides you cant really judge different examples as to their "creativity" level.

If my mom was as nervous as you about MY SAT I'd probably shoot myself and end her suffering

Majority opinion: Against it

Examples: Copernicus heliocentric theory
Nazi's in WWII

Damn too many of us used Coperniucus.
Copernicus/Galileo/Kepler, antebellem slavery, current form of govt but i forgot my awesome examples lol.
