I have solid extracurriculars with leadership positiosn in around six clubs, teams, and organizations, and I am confident that I have fantastic recommendations as well. My only worry is that I don’t have a “hook” as I have only done an average amount of community service.
For anyone who has applied and been accepted to top colleges or has had kids who have applied and been accepted to top colleges, what did you think were your “hooks” that distinguished you from other applicants?.
My kids were academically strong recruited athletes and both were accepted by their first choice schools. But don’t worry; most of their college classmates were “unhooked” and were accepted nonetheless. Good luck!
Most applicants do not have hooks. A hook is a reason why a college would specifically one want one person over others with similar profile. As noted above hooks can be recruited athlete, child of a huge donor, etc.
