What would accompany...?

Long story short: I want to go from physics major to renewable energy major with a minor in physics. Sad part: my school (Illinois State University) doesn't have an engineering program.

My options: Major in Renewable Energy, minor in physics, try and find a job, go back to school for some sort of engineering.

or

Do Engineering Physics "5 Year Program" - 3 years at ISU, 2 years of U of I - I get a double major (physics and engineering). Doesn't leave any room for Renewable Energy outside of a minor.

If I went with the first option, though, what field of engineering would help? Environmental engineering would seem like the best option, but for all I know another field could make me even more versatile.

Thanks for any help regarding this. It's an odd situation for me...

“Bump.”

Thus the need for “10 char.”

I would go for the 5 year program. Being part of a ‘renewable energy’ major is not the only way to get involved with engineering renewable systems. You can study mechanical and go into electric vehicles, you can study electrical engineering and get into photovolotaics, you can study aerospace and work on wind turbine design. Lots of options, just make it known that you’re interested in it.
