What would be a good major for UMich Undergrad

I don't know what to major in! I want to major in something that is going to help me find a job. Any ideas? PS. I am not a science oriented person.

You really shouldn’t look to other people about what to study. Don’t study something simply because it has a better chance of landing you a job, because then you’ll just be miserable doing it. Figure out what you like and go with it.

I mean, I’m not sure how we’re supposed to answer this question. If I was going to recommend a non-science major to you just based on job prospects, I would say major in polysci and tail it to law school, or get a business/econ degree. But what if you have absolutely no interest in these? Are you going to do one of these simply because some on the internet told you so?

Just find what you enjoy and go for it. You’ll succeed more in a smaller-market field that you enjoy than in a lucrative field that you despise.

Well, there’s not much that has better job prospects than Computer Science.

This question has no answer, just like the chance posts that are all over College Confidential. Nobody can tell you what to major in since we don’t know who you are. What you decide to study is based solely on what you are interested in. There are many majors that could lead to a potential job, but there’s no way for any of us to answer this question without knowing what it is that you are interested in and what you see yourself doing in the future.

Comp sci at UMich is amazing. Econ there is good too. You can also do, like entenduintransit said, poli sci and then go to law school. I will have to disagree with entenduintransit’s logic though because job prospects should be the number 1 concern when looking at a major. Having an interest in philosophy or literature does not mean you pursue a major in them. First look at majors that will get you a job easily, and THEN decide which one you like among them.

Try this, say outloud, After I graduate, I want to be a ____.
Or I have always wanted to be a
. Say the first thing that comes to mind. Don’t filter it. Go for it.

Try reading What Color is Your Parachute. Helps you to understand better your leanings.

Do you like numbers? Accounting maybe.
Do you like talking to people? Are you studious? Are you restless? Do you like office environments? Do you like helping people? Ask yourself all these questions and a subject might come of it. Don’t limit yourself to the official majors because they are geared towards academia. Look at the world and ask the question, then find a way to fit it into school.

I have always wanted to be a Pirate.

I strongly recommend you don’t just do the first thing that comes to mind. Put some thought into it.

Vladenschlutte you start with the first thing that comes to mind. One needs to access the inner parts of oneself.
