It would be great if the moderators could proactively lock old threads, rather than wait for someone to respond to an old thread and be told that they’re for reference only.
It would be even better if the system could do this automatically, instead of having to rely on high-priced labor.
It seems difficult to strike a balance between keeping a thread open and closing it. Several times I’ve wondered why a thread is being closed despite being active and breaking none of the rules. “OP’s question has been answered” – but discussion is still ongoing, and on that other thread yesterday I thought people agreed that further discussion is the best part of CC.
Anyway. Maybe like a year before being auto-closed?
Before CC was updated one could edit a post for up to a minute I think before there was a notation made that the post was edited. I tend to hit post before proof reading. :">
The moderators have asked for auto-closing, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.
Several items on my “wish list” have been mentioned…here’s another: I wish I could search my bookmarks. When I go to my bookmarks and use the search icon, the results are not limited to my bookmarks but rather the entire site. (Unlike searching a thread limits to that thread which is what I want).
More cowbell.
Well…increasing the number who could be ignored was an improvement!
Make forums for things like “class of 20XX” parents - I can’t read all gazillion pages of that as one thread, especially when there are more than one conversation going on simultaneously. I’d love to connect with parents with kids same age, but the mega-thread is unusable to me.
Mine does go to first unread post and as a member of many message boards, that is a great feature.
Someone asked the other day about different notification settings for different threads and it wasn’t an option. All bookmarked threads will get notifications (or not) based on your settings. It would be nice to subscribe with or without notifications. Sometimes I bookmark just for reference such as an SAT Subject test thread. (Maybe this is possible and I missed it.)
On Edit, I think you can edit for 15 minutes. I do wish that was longer. Sometimes you just read the OP wrong and would like to adjust. This is the only forum that I can’t edit my posts later.
Overall, CC has a much more sophisticated system than most message boards.
A better use profile page… I’d like to see posts from the user, not when they changed their avatar.
@pinklinks. That is already there. Once you click on a user you can find it one of two ways. On the full site use the menu that is on the upper left side of the screen. On the mobile site you have to click the three horizontal lines on the upper left of your screen to reveal a menu that includes their posts.
@ClaremontMom Thank you!
It would be nice to be able to save/bookmark a specific post within a thread.
@ChasingMerit -Interedting idea, here’s a workaround for you.
Click the number of the post. It will open your browser to the specific post. That has a unique URL, so use your browser to bookmark it.
Not sure what would happen, though, if posts get renumbered which does happen occasionally.
When a thread gets moved, it would be great if there was an indication of where it was moved to. Perhaps make it the final post before locking it?
@millie210 When you click on the locked thread that has been moved, it automatically takes you to the new location. Look up at the top of the page to see what forum it’s in.
Not sure if there is enough real estate, but I wish I could see what forum something is in when looking at Latest Posts on the mobile version.
Same issue with mobile real estate, but I’d prefer to see the username of the most recent poster in the mobile Bookmarks view instead of the original poster (who is usually no longer active for really long-lasting threads).
Here is another – the little emoticons are just too small on a mobile screen. They are hard to see, and I have trouble hitting the right one when I do pick one out. Just too tiny to correctly tap the right one. Also, the location to pull them down is bad. If I want to edit text in my post in that upper right corner, I can’t – I get the pulldown of emoticons when I try to tap on the text.
