I have a dilema, of course, that deals with AP Calculus. I have two options:

Enroll in AP Calculus through Apex Learning. Would this be effective for learning math online and doing well on the AP exam. My AP cal. teacher says she doesn’t recommend it. Moreover, another advantage of taking this class is a better grading scale (85% minimum A), although the class the tests are much harder and timed.

Enroll in AP Calculus at my high school. However, we only have one AP calculus teacher and I heard that she is your worst nightmare. Many students drop out second semester. Some say she can’t teach. I’m pretty decent at math, all A’s except for precalculus throughout high school where I had a 92ish% for both semesters (93% being an A) in precal. Nevertheless, my teacher was horrible, and always seemed to be busy. Moreover, our class was huge, over 30 students. Thus, I never felt to have much personal attention from the teacher. My AP Calculus teacher has only one period of this class, which is loaded with students as well.

I willing to study hard and I have already bought Princton Review for AP Calculus AB and BC. Either way I choose, I will stay on top of my assignments, tests, reviews, use the book for references and questions, and even search online for help.

DO NOT take any classes with Apex. I took AP Micro and AP Chem with them. The classes are crap. They teach you the material with these extremely childish videos (cartoon characters and an annoying narrator). The classes are a TON of work. Trust me...it's not worth it.

use thinkwell for AP calculus - Prof Berger is amazing www.thinkwell.com I can't recommend him enough! I didn't do a single problem outside the video lectures in all of Calc AB besides at the very end (integration and optimization) and easily scored a 5 on the AP. Any q's just PM me.

More opinions? Has anyone else taken Apex and would share their thoughts in regards to how it compares to classes taught at school? Would it be "okay" to enroll into humanities classes online instead of science and math?

I have taken AP Micro on Apex. It was disappointing and I would not recommend it. The videos they use are terrible and the assignments are childish, repetitive, and just plain boring. I got an A so it's not hard or anything but it was not enjoyable.

Okay, here is my senior schedule at my school:

AP Physics B (self-study) I took Accelerated Physics as a junior (I have PR for B and C)

AP Calculus (self-study) I took Accelerated Prec. as junior (I have PR)

AP World History (easy)

AP Statistics

AP Lit. and Comp.

AP Lang. and Comp.

AP Chemistry (Acc. as junior)

I bought all the prep. books recommended on this website for each AP class.

Two questions:

Would it be enough to use prep. books for physics and calculus and some supplmentary material to score 4-5.

Is this doable?

Wow, all AP's, do you not have electives to choose from, or do you choose not to take any? Anyways, I'd say go with the independent study option for Calculus, but make sure you really commit, and don't slack off until a week before the exam!

AP Calculus (I'm one month ahead and it beyond an easy class to self-study)
AP Lit/Comp. (easy, write essays, vocab. etc.)
AP World History (doesn't seem difficult, hadUS last year)
AP Physics ( self-studying for both C exams)
AP English (extremely easy)
AP Chemistry (the best class in the universe)

Don't ever ever ever never take AP Statistics, the class is beyond a joke. I looked at my material we as students are going to study, and half the material I already knew from AP Psychology. Self studying is the most effective, and time efficient method for the AP Stat. exam.
