I've heard engineering is pretty hard to get into.

Do they specifically look at sub scores? Any other advice?

It depends on which school you are applying. In general, the Math score is more important.

ACT scores don’t predict engineering success by any means. You need a willingness to work very hard, a track record of excelling in math and science, and a college environment that optimizes your learning. I know of a person with 50th percentile SAT scores who excelled in engineering. It might not be the norm, but definitely not the exception either.

Most important will be a willingness to work hard and an ability to persevere through difficult and often boring material in order to get to the good stuff. Next would come some innate math and science ability. It’s probably rare for engineering grads to be below a 25 on the math portion of the ACT, though it can happen with a lot of work and the right major.

I suspect most non-elite engineering schools probably have a median ACT of around 27 or 28 for their graduates.

The question is about being admitted to engineering not being successful. Quite different. As Bill said the Math score is the most important. I would say a 28 at the minimum for a composite.

It depends on the school. I have seen some as low as 24.

So they they look at the math section individually? Cause I have a 34 on math but a 2; on reading. 30 composite.

I meant to say 24 on reading section

depends on the school. better to ask via college specific forum.
