ooh, another one to add to the list: right now I'm in love with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. $$$$$, though.

//and i definitely understand the differences between a conceptual & technical program. or a communication or visual based program.//

Graphic Design is a visual communication system, not sure how you would separate the two - visual from communication in a G.D. program. Certainly, foundation level 2-D courses and some exercises may focus on the application of design principles to form; and this is ultimately relevent to management and structure of information to provide clear communication = something worth knowing.

//i didn't like the work. i don't think i need a catalog to tell me whether or not to like the work, thats a personal opinion.//

As you said, it is a personal opinion, and thus we should understand that in no way is your personal opinion an objective assessment of the program.

I just transferred here last month mainly because they gave me buckets of money, and I can see why. The program isn't very strong and unless you are someone who LOVES, and i mean LOVES art I wouldn't come here. Also if you aren't prepared to hear the words "post-modern" or "structuralized" then you better take off running.

sidenote: I'm transferring out at the end of this semster.

//Also if you aren't prepared to hear the words "post-modern" or "structuralized" then you better take off running.//

What would you want to hear?

This is a post-modern era, and understanding structuralism, post-structuralism, and deconstructionism is critical to understanding visual communications. I wish my studies had covered these theories in depth. However, I do admit that the concepts are difficult to grasp; don't give up so soon! Why aren't you pursuing something you don't love anyway?

This link isn't too bad...

This is a great thread for me, i am just going to start my senior year and already i'm stressing over colleges! i want to study graphic design but i don't want to go to the AI's, even though I love them, because they have no campus and I want to have the whole campus experience... i was thinking also along the east cost, maybe Cali.? But apparently I'm gonna need some good scholarships and financial aid cause my dad thinks they are expensive colleges since I'm coming from Puerto Rico.

Anyways, my first choice is Florida, what do you guys know from there with good GD programs? I know the AI's and I believe FIU...?
