what's a good minor that complements economics?

anyone know of any good ones?

No computer science please.

Ooh, what a cool concidence  I’ve been researching that for the past couple of hours, lol, because I’m interested in doing that, too. Here are some good ones that have come up in my search:
-Statistics (Econ and Stat are very closely related)
-Applied Mathematics (seems to be a good one for people who plan on going to grad school with Econ)

  • Sociology (Econ also seems to be tied to Sociology, although it may not be recommended (I think) if you decide to pursue Econ at the graduate level)
-Finance (This has come up a few times but I still need to research that minor a little more)

If you like politics and are interested in issues such as income inequality, you should check out Cal’s public policy minor. It’s a combination of political science and economics, but in a more practical setting (Cal’s Pol Sci is pretty theoretical).

You’re background in economics will help you a lot.

Statistics
IEOR
Classes in accounting/finance at haas.

don’t you have enough on your plate as a premed econ major?

By the way, if anyone has experience with this or anything:
-I’m thinking of double majoring in Econ. and Stat. and I just outlined my 4 years to see whether or not I’d have time for the requirements for each major (and then do the L&S breadth requirements). It’s gonna be a lot of stuff, but I think I might be able to manage it.

Basically, is it better (more marketable) to do a double major in Econ/Stat with the possibility of ending up with an average but maybe not great GPA, or just devote my time to Econ?

^ I see that you’re trying to get into Math 16A for the fall. You know you need 1A for a stats major, right?

Yes, and it took a lot of planning and studying the Catalog book but I’m thinking I’ll take the 16 series and then the 1 series after that. I know about the partial credit, but I’m really wanting a Stat double major xD

^^i’m sorry but taking 16 and then 1a is just plain stupid and a waste of 2 classes

Yes, please don’t take the 16 series and then 1…

go with stats. you might look into being an actuary, they make a ton of $$

i’d be down for stats except i still have to take math 53 and 54…

Are there maybe some Finance/Business courses you can take at Haas for a minor?

i was looking at some haas classes. So ugba 131 and 133 also count for my economics major, but it requires ugba 103 and says nothing about econ 136.

econ 136 and ugba 103 are basically the same class right? So wouldn’t that also be sufficient to satisfy the prereq for ugba 131 and 133?

you actually can’t minor in sociology, but if it plan it out right, you could double major.

I was wondering the same thing about ECON 136 and UGBA 103? Arent they basically the same thing? I want to take UGBA 137 but it only has UGBA 103 as a prereq. Totally lost.
