**What's a profile of an "average" Columbia accepted applicant?**

Anyone who attends or was accepted can you please help me? I want to see if I have a solid chance or if it's a reach.

GPA?
Rank?
APs?
SAT I?
SAT II?
ECs?
Ethnicity?

Also does anyone have any advice for the essay topics? I really want the admissions people to get to know me as a person, academically and personally, but I don't wanna write about my hardships (which I really have had my share of some) because I feel if I go that route, it'll just be cliche.

THANKS!!

depending on the hardship, i believe that it is possible to write a personal essay without sounding cliche. I actually wrote my essay about a pretty personal event in my life. I spoke with my admissions officer shortly after I was admitted and he told me that he loved my essay.

gpa depends on where u at rank better be top 5 percent aps depend on ur school but if ur skool offers alot of aps like 20- 30 u should take like 10 sat 1 1480 sat ii's 720 + , ecs is nething with passion
but ethnicity r u kidding that doesnt deserve an answer

Based on my observances, the average Columbia kid is a suburban white kid from an upper middle class family who attended a private school in the Northeast/Atlantic region.

so u think a hispanic male from georgia in top 5% of his class might have a chance?

damn it, another hispanic male....that's not a bad thing...i just realized im not as alone....

what about SEAS?

really where u from zack?

well, im afraid to say, cuz my mom's from a small country, so small, there are probably no other applicants with that origin, and so any admission officer roaming these boards would know for sure who i am.....i'll tell you, im not mexican or puerto rican

ooooookay.................

Yes, something like this would be really helpful. It would probably eliminate all of those chances questions.

compare to last year (05)'s stats.. these are much more number oriented..

"so u think a hispanic male from georgia in top 5% of his class might have a chance?"

How does this necessarily follow from the average student being a suburban white? I know nothing about you other than your race/geography.
