there doesn't seem to have a thread like this here in the stanford forum, is the school TOO amazing? why don't we dissect it and pick out the CONS. after all, every school is amazing, the only way to examine the school for yourself might be to look at the cons and see if you're going to be okay with it.

There are a few things, mostly minor
1) the bathroom stalls are too small, it's annoying
2) coursework/axess (the websites for academic classes) kinda suck
3) the dining hall hours are less than ideal

there is probably other stuff... I just can't think of it

One thing that can be a problem is that, as a freshman, getting used to being surrounded by amazingly brilliant people can be a challenge. I mean it's great, I love it, but at the same time it's hard to still feel special, as silly as that may sound. It's easy to feel that it's easy for everyone else but hard for you. And you might actually really struggle for one of the first times in you life. But then you get over it. I think any non-trivial negatives of stanford are psychological issues/difficulties associated with stanford being so amazing.

Well - I suppose the size of the campus means you have to bike everywhere, which sucks when it's raining.
The weather isn't as nice in the winter as during the rest of the year...

The campus is pretty spread out, which is good and bad - it doesn't have the kind of life and energy that I've seen at, say, UT (but then again, that's 50,000 people on 40 acres).

My daughter is about to graduate this spring from Stanford. I asked her this question as she approaches her final quarter. Overall, she loved Stanford, but she thought Palo Alto was a boring, upscale, gentrified town not really suited to college student life, that there were some very, very, very driven people at the school who placed grades and accomplishments above learning, the school population, while ethnically diverse, is not socio-economically diverse--lots of rich kids of all colors, and the ethnic/racial groups can be cliquey. Her desire to go to a prestigious medical school has been pretty much eliminated after going to Stanford. Now, she wants to be around more relaxed students whose identity is not so tied into the brand-name of the school.

"i heard that stanford is just like high school, where all the football players get the girls and stuff."
You "heard" wrong. I can attest to that personally.
