which school should i apply to?

Boston College

why?????????????

I don't think it's as simple as that!

There is not a clear answer. People generally think of BC as having an edge over BU, which was certainly true 20 years ago. BU is not the same school it used to be and some of its programs are very very strong (although some programs leave a bit to be desired). BC might be a bit more respected around Boston, but BU has a better name internationally.

Honestly, you shouldn't even be considering both schools--they are too different in terms of location, culture and structure for you to really be interested in both.

please explain to me the differences in these schools?

I agree. I would never apply to BU but at a time I was seriously considering BC. :)

We visited both schools and I have a friend who is at BC now. BC has a nice campus in suburban Boston. BU does not have much of a campus (okay, it has no campus). BC is much more conservative and preppy with a good sports program. BU will have a greater mix of kids, including more artsy kids. It is not a campusy school though. They really did seem like they would attract a different type of kid. My friend at BC is liking it but is disappointed in the lack of diversity - says it is like going to a big suburban high school, but she feels she is getting a god education and it's easy to get into Boston. It's 80 per cent Catholic if you care.

im asian so i prefer diversity, but i also want a school not too big campusy

 Not in a Catholic school!

Yes, imagine that. Catholics in a catholic school ;)

"My friend at BC is liking it but is disappointed in the lack of diversity - says it is like going to a big suburban high school, but she feels she is getting a god education and it's easy to get into Boston."

Well, it is Catholic! (sorry, just had to point that out)

BC is a little harder to get into; BU is closer to the city

BU is more diverse and has a better international reputation.

Is it really different if you go to a catholic school? (when you're not a catholic?) like, is there a church there that everyone attends on sundays or wahtehver?

It depends on the particular school you have in question. Some religious schools have heavy theology requirements and mandatory church attendance, whereas others just are affiliated with a church and can have maybe a theology class requirement.

if your catholic do you have an edge in admissions? it seems so since 80% are catholics...unless the applicants are self-selective i guess. for my common app i was going to write about my faith (protestant)...would that be a bad idea?

Most of these answers are dodging the question: in terms of admissions, Boston College is much better than Boston University. Just look at the stats ...

BC's acceptance rate: 29%
BU's: 49%, thats a huge difference.

Same with SATs, GPA, % in top 10%, etc ... BC applicants are far much more accomplished than BU applicants. There's really not much comparaison. BUT ...

Of course, "better" depends entirely on who you are and what you intend to study.

Financial Aid: BU is offering a new scholarship for this years' Seniors. Ten students interested in engineering will be able get a full ride scholarship and be able to complete their masters there. ahah..just a tiny tid bit if you're interested in engineering
