It's my 2nd year being captain of my high school's varsity cheerleading squad and i intend on continuing it through college. What's it like at UVA? How competitive is it? Any incite would be really appreciated :) thanks for your time!

If memory serves, we have three teams here. There’s a co-ed team, an all girls team, and a CIO that is a competitive team. The competition team is totally independent of the first two and as they go to multiple competitions each year.

Try outs for the first two are in April, which means you have a very quick turn around between the time you are offered admission and when you have to try out. They go to a UCA camp over the summer. Tryouts for the competitive team are generally in the fall.

one of the contributors to CC, jc40, has a daughter at UVA who is on one of the cheerleading squads (I don’t know which one, but she sounds really into it.) The D is just a first year, so I don’t know how much experience she’s had yet, but you might send a private message to jc40 if she doesn’t pipe up on this thread.

Jingle…I have communicated with ArtsyGirl21. Thanks, and I hope your son is doing well! :)
