Wow, pathways! Great link. I have someone I’m going to send this to right now! :)

DIII shouldn’t be a problem, provided time away is not during the sport’s competitive season. S plays a Fall sport at a NESCAC school that was one of the top teams in the country this year. Several players are abroad for Spring semester. Pre-med is not a problem. All courses, including lab courses, end by 4 p.m., so practices that start at 4:30 during the season aren’t affected (there are some evening courses, such as film screenings, but those are after practice). From what S saw in his college search, NESCAC, Liberty League, and Centennial Conference schools worked in athletics with academics very well. The UAA, with its demanding travel schedule and the need to fly to get to most competitions, can be trickier because of class time missed for travel.

I’d suggest your D focus her conversation with coaches on athletics and try to get her other interests addressed through other representatives and/or students at the schools.

“I’m really intrigued by your last sentence. What kinds of companies have special recruiting for varsity athletes?”

I know of several top financial and consulting companies that send out invitations to on-campus events for “varsity athletes only.”
