it hasnt been a good day...i got a 70 and a 61..laziness is startin to kick in and i know i have to stop slacking but i might get a c this quarter...whatll get me a warning and/or rescinded.

If you get below a B (even a B-), the admissions office automatically rescinds your application, and you get deferred to next year's early admissions process.

Phuriku is joking.

I know that seniioritis is tough to combat, but I can tell you right now that you're going to want to be in the right academic mindset next year. Sometimes it's really hard for students who are used to being lazy to get back in check with academics... you can lighten up about the exact grades, but you shouldn't stop working completely.

do you have to maintain the same level of grades as you did the past three years?

so 1 c wont do anything?>

You're going to have to make some D's or even F's to get the boot, I think.

From Ted O'Neill's speech to welcome class of 2009:

"We hope, just because you imagined that when you arrived you would catch a whiff of the corpse of fun, that you didn’t delay your departure. Maybe you thought…you got the wrong letter! Or, that we changed our decision – we found out that you didn’t study for your calculus placement exam, or read The Iliad, or memorize French idioms, or, that we really paid attention to your spring semester C- in AP Chemistry – that instead you went to the beach, de-tassled corn, or drank a root beer – things no University of Chicago student is supposed to do. But – we don’t make mistakes, and, stare decisus –the decision stands (for the next day or so, the Latin phase newscasters will take the most pleasure in saying), stare decisus, unless you really think those old judges didn’t know what they were doing – stare decisus – “you’re stuck” is the English translation. "

That should answer your question.

Unless you really screw things up, that is. I'm not sure they'd be so forgiving if you conjured up a few Ds/Fs.

Lord, that was a great speech! I didn't even remember that part until now, because the "Meritocrats" bit was such a tour de force. But O'Neill is just a heck of an orator.

Here's the whole thing: Convocation Speech: Class of 2005. It has been posted before, but deserves to be posted again.

Someone in another thread suggested that this year's welcome address was disappointing. It was. Maybe in this post-steroids era, he can;t hit it out of the park every time.

I hope the speech is exciting next year..

This one looks great.
