so, it's been squared away that o'neill stands by admissions decisions and won't rescind an acceptance barring my failing out of school or murdering someone.
but what about nondorf?
i'm lookin at a C in calculus and i just don't know if nondorf will be as forgiving as his predecessor...

if you are just getting one C, you should be fine. i assume that if you are a Chicago admit you’ve been getting all or mostly As throughout high school. if you drop to a C in, say, half or more of your classes, then i would worry.

You’ll be fine. My brother got 3 C’s a couple years ago senior year and wasn’t rescinded (straight A’s 9-11). It was a couple years ago, but I can’t imagine anyone getting rescinded for 1 C really.

yea, i’m just worried cuz nobody’s really sure what nondorf’s “senior slack” policy is and it’s only first semester. but this is more “senior getting ass kicked by calculus”.

but uhh yea, @motion12345, i would not be the authority on that as i have not gotten 4.0s

The person I know was a Math/Science and just did well in English for the grade. Once grades didn’t matter, he had no motivation to do work whatsoever. Most know how much work they need to do to get above a C, but some take it to the extreme.

Sometimes–GASP!–personal things come up, and then all of a sudden people stop being robots and start caring about things other than their GPA. Imagine.

I’m getting a C in Physics C because I’m horrible at it. That’s why most everyone waits 'till their senior year to take it here. If you suck, it’s not as much of a problem.

A lot of times, senior year schedules are the hardest with many top admits taking on full AP schedules, on top of the added stress of college apps. Getting straight A’s in 4 or 5 AP classes during 10th and 11th grade is a lot easier than doing the same thing in 6 or 7 of these classes senior year.

Ditto. My son hit a wall with the second half of BC Calculus and Physics C (E). His other grades kept up just fine. There may have been some senioritis involved, but that wasn’t all it was.

It can also be a serious case of burnout from sports, applications, heavy courseload and busting tail for 3.5 years that leads to illness. I’d be happy if my kid had some senioritis right about now.

To be honest, I am so burned out right now. I got a REALLY bad grade in organic chemistry and a eh grade in differential equations at college, but straight As in high school. I’m a bit freaked out about being rescinded. I know I got deferred at MIT because I had one really bad grade my junior year (my interviewer told me), and I’m afraid Chicago will rescind me for that.

I’ve been taking a ridiculous course load w/college courses since I was a sophomore, and I’m taking a break now. I loaded up on social studies classes (which are way more enjoyable than chemistry), and I now have my first class at 9:20. It’s nice. I’m way less stressed. I need this break so I can do well in college and not have burned-out-freshman-itis.

I’m really hoping that Chicago is cooler than MIT and considers personal circumstances and the whole situation than just one letter. I’m 95% sure they’ll do that. It’s just that MIT has me freaked out about it.

ugh, MIT is a cruel mistress. I think Chicago is more me. More laid back about grades, and more passionate about learning.
