Okay, I just wanted to know all about what it's like, honestly. Tell me every little detail you can think of! My previous school treated us like 5 year olds, and it was extremely easy to get straight A's. What things should I try to avoid, as well? Sorry this is so vague, but I just want to know literally everything xD

Well, you switch classes throughout the day. Is this good enough?

Oh yeah. Avoid the so-called “popular” crowd. Most of the time, those are the druggies.

Don’t think being in a relationship matters at all. It’s good to learn things through relationships but don’t be looking for one.

Be friends with everyone, but don’t be annoying.

Teachers will be your best friends if you are really nice to them. And that’s a good thing.

It’s cool to be a nerd.

You’ll have your hard classes and then your super easy classes. But don’t let your guard down.

Do your homework before the day it’s due.

High school should be one of the best times of your life. You might have those moments in which you’re terribly depressed, but you should let them drive you to be even better. Maybe a subject that came naturally to you before will be extremely hard in high school. Don’t be freaked out by anything, and don’t dwell on past mistakes; work to patch up the mistakes the best you can.

Um, it’s just, y’know…school? Haha I can’t really describe what it’s like. It’s not too hard to pick up on the social stuff; after the first couple weeks you’ll know how everything goes down at your school. Figure out the way the social system works, and you’re golden. Be friends with all kinds of people. Be “friends” with everyone to their face, because it’ll help you out in the long run.

Way more freedom than middle school, but also more work (assuming you’re taking challenging classes). 9th grade is the easiest grade, though.

Have fun. Don’t do drugs. If you do, don’t do the really bad ones. Don’t die. Get sleep. Learn how to game the system in an ethical way. This sounds bad, but I mean, figure out the ins and outs and everything about your high school. Shortcuts to get to class easier, ways to get on your teachers’ good sides, etc.

It’s like middle school except higher (in more ways than one).

Hello CC Person,

High School is an experience. It varies across all kinds of people and high schools, so I’ll try to be as generalizing as possible.

High School is horrifying. I sometimes average less sleep than a North Korean death camp laborer. Sometimes my relationships drive me insane. My teachers can often throw mounds of inane homework at me, to the point that I’ll face 4 hours or more of homework in a night…and sometimes into the early day.

However, High School is also amazing. I’m a pretty lucky guy, being endowed with the gifts of health, moderate wealth and relatively high intelligence. High School, for me, is a time for great times. There are a lot of great moments that have happened while I was in high school; I won some national level debates, became friends with some of the greatest people, did some crazy things with my best friends, learned the ways and secrets of the world and smiled a whole ton.

On a day-by-day basis, all I can say for high school is that it is really boring. I do fun stuff with fun people, but there is a lot of hard work before I get to my play. I took 6 APs, 4 College Classes and did a lot of other courses and ECs, leaving me with a really busy schedule. Also, high school isn’t really too different from middle school. The HS Class of 2018 and 2017 have some great advice from old people older students and if you start a thread asking for advice, you’d get a lot of great material.

I think it’s nice that you’re excited about starting high school.

I didn’t really feel like that summer before freshman year. It just felt like another year of school, just at a different place. I guess one of the big differences between high school and middle school is having more freedom and becoming more independent. It’s great if you really think through your decisions and actions but sometimes it can also be what causes you to go downhill a little. Some days I like school and I’m excited to wake up for school, other days I’m dreading going to school. Education wise, I like it and I like how there’s things other than class to do like clubs and sports. There are a mix of people to meet. I’m excited to see where life will take me after graduation, that might mean something. You’ll grow as a person and learn more about yourself and life throughout the years but your experience is really just what you make it.

Level of difficulty varies from schools but generally high school is academically harder than middle school. Better course options though.

I’d like to point out to the OP that above all else, high school will be exactly what you make of it. It’s as fun and crazy and stressful as you choose to make it

I agree with @Smrtical on most of his pieces of wisdoms. He gives good advice. The only thing I might disagree with is make friends with everyone. I think it is perfectly fine to be friendly to everyone, but it’s okay too to be selective about your friends and who you hang out with. I was that kid who made many good friends, but also acquaintances in high school by being nice to everyone. However, at the end I realized you have to determine who your true friends are. The ones that you will stay with after graduation and who have always got your back no matter what. Those are the ones you should truly put time into.

It’s okay to stand up for yourself and not go with the flow as well. At some point in high school, you will be challenged in what you believe in. Show some guts by not following what everyone else does, but choosing your own path. That’s one of the reasons I recommended being selective earlier.

And like @Apollo11 said, high school, like anything else is what you make of it. There is a reason why every single person has a different experience, but you can choose how it affects you by having a good attitude and taking advantage of all it has to offer.

Congrats on starting an exciting experience!

Make sure your life is dope and that you do dope things.

That’s the key to an awesome time.

If you go to Munster (which I’m assuming you do according to your post on NWIstudent) the food is mediocre. There are some lunches you must get whenever they are served: Create your own sandwich and Salad Bar Thursdays. The best soups are hands down lemon rice soup, cream of broccoli, and cream of potato. Mr. Sokol who teaches H. Algebra II will have you cracking up with his mannerisms. Mr. Shinkan (don’t expect to learn much its an easy A). If you have any other questions about Munster just pm me (I’m going to be a junior)

awful

So far
Either I wanted to die, or I was on cloud nine.
High school is bipolar
^^^^^ or maybe I’m bipolar.

Sorry if my last response came off rude.
High school can be fun.
My advice is try to find a circle of friends you feel like you can be yourself with. Don’t try to get in with the big crowd of “popular kids”.
There are people that you meet that can change the way you view things, introduce you to such new insights.
And there are people who don’t want to waste a second to even glance at you.
There are teachers who can be so inspiring, want the best for you, strive to educate you, and those teachers would forever stick with your memory.
& THEN THERE ARE TEACHERS YOU WANT TO !!!@$$$*%#
(No, my censor was not something meant vulgar)
There are feelings you develop that you can’t control. Someone can lead you on, and then one day move on. Or give you mixed messages. It’s best to avoid those people, no matter how hard it is.

Sex, drugs, partying, etc whatever isn’t all that important lol. Don’t feel left out and don’t get tempted. No one has to know your personal life honestly.

Now the academics. You say you won’t procrastinate but you do. Sad truth. Unless you’re a good student
Get use to making tons of mistakes.
Get use to failing.
Get use to everything.

Good luck and enjoy high school
To me it’s a roller coaster

Also like what others are saying, high school is full of experiences.
The opportunities there are.
You can do anything.
You can BE anything.
Make the best out of it
