What's it like being an econ student @ Rochester?

How are the proffs? Where do graduates go?

How many courses per scemester can you take @ Simon?

*sigh...Do me a favor would ya:
Call URochester Admissions and Ask for info about the Simon School of Business - ask them where the graduates go. Why didnt you ask these questions while on campus? We dont have all the answers in the world for you here - The bottom line is we all know about the high-ranked departments at UofR, people are nice, professors are enthusiastic, funding is high, facilities are well maintained.

Courses are very flexible at UR, you can pretty much take whatever course you want thats available at any of the schools - and that includes the Simon - at least at the intro level. From there, it depends on what you decide to major in I believe. Thats all i know.

Case and UR are similar, Case is more structured, UR is more liberal. Goo d luck deciding!

More structured?

case? when did sebma bring up case? lol...

Lol ive seen him before on other threads - he's weighing UR vs Case at the moment. If he isnt convinced by now to go to UR, then i dont know what will =P

Case is more structured yes - unlike UR, its got required courses. Ahighlight of URochester is that the curriculum has no required courses and you pretty much choose the classes that most interest you rather than having to fulfill a buncha subject requirements

Oh man.

Don't get me started on Econ

the UR's Econ department is ranked 3rd in publications per faculty, 10th in effectiveness of PhD program, 4th in Citations per faculty.

If that isn't impressive enough, one professor I really have enjoyed is Professor Landsburg who if you wikipedia him you'll get some intesting stuff about him. Plus he has a book coming out called "More sex is safer sex, and other surprises." His lectures are interesting, they push your unerstanding of economics.

and trust me, AP macroecon was taught horribly wrong after what I've learned in Macro. If you remember "putting money under your bed is bad for the market becuase you don't spend it." It's a lie! A misperception of the logic of Economics.

Haha, it's a lot of fun, it's really interseting, and you can take courses at the graduate school as electives without any real problem. They offer quite a few business courses through Simon.

Hope that helps. contact me if you have more questions.

I know his daughter... hehe

haha, yeah...

I've heard a lot of people know her.

LMAO
wth is that supposed to mean ? hahahahaha j/k =P

^That is actually cruelly ironic (whatever you are implying) and since I do know her...

Let's just leave it at that ;)

yea let's leave that at that.....I'm not trying to imply anything.

I like Professor Landsburg, and I really odn't know his daughter. I'm just saying what I'm hearing from someone who knows someone who...

I'm dropping this topic....now.

so, sry if this is a dumb question, but if you want to major or minor in business, are u actually doing a major or minor in economics? yeah, i might take some courses of each major i'm considering (physics, chem, bme, business) and then decide which to major in...

Um i'm not 100% certain,

but from an initial look over of the degrees.

I don't see a "business" major. There is however 3-2 program where you get your undergraduate degree in something and do MBA courses for a business degree. Some courses do overlap though, and as an econ major you have options of taking electives at the Simon Business School

Suman, probably what you should do the first semester is take PHY122, CHM131 (make sure to take it with Krugh), BME101, and ECO108...
But make sure you do well on your AP calc test so you can skip 161!

oh ok...yeah i take my ap calc exam this wednesday...any tips for it? not only for me but i'm sure others will be taking it too...

Cal AB or BC?

Get a good night's sleep
Triangles will be your friend (as they were for last year's... Nobody I knew was sure of how to do this one problem...)

hopkinslaz, are you talking about calc BC?

As a random story..

When I took BC my year, BC ended up being "easier" than AB. It was rather funny. My entire class of BC (9 people) got 5's. While the class of AB students (40 or so) ranged from 2-5.

That was entertaining.....

our school only offers AB...triangles?? eww...
