What's More Important: Extra Curriculars or Work Experience?

Hello,

I am going to be a senior next year and am full swing in this process of applying to colleges. While perusing this forum I have noticed that a lot of people here have a very long list of extra curricular activities. For example many people are leaders in clubs or do lots of volunteering with medicine companies. In my case, my school is pretty small (~175 graduating class) and doesn't really have a lot of clubs. Besides NHS and student council there aren't many opportunities for leadership. However, I am pretty active work wise. I have been working at a supermarket for about 15 months, caddy at the local country club 5 days a week, and mow 2-3 lawns in my neighborhood every year. Well, enough about my personal situation. I am just wondering if admission counselors consider work experience equal to the stacked extra curricular lists seen on this site.

Thanks,
Stephen

It doesn’t really matter, both are equally valuable. Colleges want to see PASSION and dedication, no matter what kind of “activity” it is.

Bluebubbles is right.

In this particular situation, your work experience will be seen as more meaningful than the fifty different clubs that everyone else is in.
