Whats new?

I have been reading some old (2007) very negative posts about Montclair. The biggest complaint was poor housing facilities (over crowded, no heat or hot water). I am hoping that things have improved in three years. I am especially concerned with the comments stating that on campus housing is not gauranteed all four years and that some housing is off campus with poor shuttle service.

Also comments saying that if you do not have a car there is nothing to do or no place to go.

Have new dorms been built recently?
Have conditions of old dorms been improved?
Does the train run to NYC on the weekends?

Any updated info would be appreciated. Have not received acceptance yet, but am interested!

Just to clarify. We have heard amazing things about Clay James and the program, just not great things about the campus!

My son has a lot of friends at Montclair (we live about an hour and a half away) and he auditioned there himself for the BFA acting program.

I read some of those old posts, too, and they made me wonder, but we have never heard any complaints about housing, difficulty getting to NYC, not enough to do…no complaints at all about any of that stuff.

Hi, were were there for my D’s audition last weekend and they told us that new dorms would be ready for FL10- It is a suitcase college, but the MT majors all stay and rehearse and have their own group with lots to do, from the students we talked to. All praised Clay James and his leadership. The train runs all the time, we were told there is also a bus that is more direct and takes much less time for something like $6.50 or so. We have not heard any acceptances yet, from anyone so we are holding our breath!

Hi! My son is in his second year at Monclair. We also saw the old posts but we auditioned anyway. What they were talking about is Freeman Hall which is an old building that houses the majority of the school of the arts kids. Put it this way my son fought to get back it that dorm this year. He loves it and never had a problem. As for nothing to do. If you are BFA MT you will never have nothing to do they are so busy. But, you can get to NYC very easily and my son does not have a car. Good Luck to everyone it is a fantastic program!
