Diveristy is a very important aspect for me in choosing a school. I know that there is some self segregation anywhere you go, but I want to go to a school where there there is more interaction between groups of people. I've seen many posts and comments about how different groups tend to stick to themselves at Emory. What's been your experience with that? Also, do African American's feel comfortable at Emory and do you feel accepted in the Emory community. The school boasts about diversity in it's brochures but I just don't want to go to Emory and feel disappointed or misguided. Thanks.

Atlanta and Georgia in general is a very african american state

The African American experience at any top 20 university will be similar. Most of your friends may be African American, but Emory is very accepting of all cultures and ethnicities. If you’re from a pre-dominately black community or school, then you will notice that Emory itself does not do a lot SPECIFICALLY for the African American students and that it’s the multicultural organizations that put on the more “urban” events.

But, it is true. Many racial groups stick together. That does not mean, however, that everyone is unwilling to make friends outside of their circle. You will see interaction. This isn’t the 1960’s.
