Hello. I'm new to these forums. I need some questions answered about Emory University. But first off, I'd like to say that I am 15, a sophomore in high school, and am very serious about getting into and going to a wonderful college. I've heard much about Emory, but I need first hand accounts. So... If you will, can you help me?

I'm in a bit of a tight spot here. I'm a black female thinking about going to Emory. It sounds like a wonderful university for academics, but I'm worried about the social scene and how people will recieve me on campus. I've heard it's quite diverse and it seems like people have fun, but I just need a clear view. Is there a paucity of African Americans on campus (both male and female)? Do people recieve people of a different race well even if they do stay within their own ethnic groupings? Is there a strong unification of the minority students?

As for the social scene, is there much time for partying or is it all work and no play? About how much time would a pre-med major spend in the books and in the club? I want to have fun in college, but at the same time get a great education. Would Emory be right for someone like me?

not being a current student, i hope to be, ill put in my 2 cents.

i think being a sophomore you should worry about keeping a high gpa because it is always the most important thing.

emory is not an all work no play school, its perfectly in the middle. but by no means is it a work hard play harder school, a better southern school for that is duke or university of virginia.

pre-med is a great major and is an amazing department. if you are looking to go to med school then emory is a good starting point i believe.

all i can say is maybe visit in your off time for a weekend. you'll know whether or not a school is right for you just by visiting it.

Thanks for the input farb :) And, by the way, I am by no means ignoring my grades :) I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA and am 3rd in my class out of about 160 students (my high school is quite small). And college visits would have to work around the fact that I am an out of state student. Any suggestions there?

well at Emory, you MUST visit, or else when emory is in your area, you MUST go to the info. session. emory really cares about whether or not you contact them (either by going to an info session in your area, or even better, shlepping to ATL for a visit), they even say so.

but im an african american female who's applying, so i wish you the best & hope to see you there!

Thanks for the encouragment jf. Dont worry, I'll be making a trip out to ATL regardless. I just have to get the moola together :) LoL... I missed the info session this year :( But I will definitly go the next time around.
