There's so much talk about the substance-free dorms and quiet dorms..I'm wondering what the most social, outgoing, substance-abusing dorm is. I want to join that one.

Well when I went to dimensions I heard that for freshmen the Choates and the River clusters are pretty loud and social.

Choates in my opinion...river is cool too.

if river and choates are big loud party dorms...where would freshman live that AREN'T big loud party dorms, excluding substance free and EW....aren't like the majority of freshman at river and choates...then doesn't that make it like almost guaranteed that you would be at a loud partying dorm as a freshman unless you request substance free or EW?

As a first year, the only choices you are given is sub free and ew, otherwise placement is really the luck of the draw with one half of the first year class being placed in the river and choates dorms a given.

I think the non-substance free dorms in the choates are best. They're all going to be completely renovated by next year, so they'll be nice. They're a lot closer to main campus than the river is, and my dorm (bissell) is a 30 seconds from frat row. I am a total substance abuser...last night I hit meetings (where frats meet up and drink) and played 5 games of pong. I think my location in the choates is wonderful. It is too loud, though...though that's just my floor. We've had more pickups by S&S on my floor than any other floor at Dartmouth this year I hear. Ha ha. We even had one kid parkhursted (suspended) for all of his pickups. He was picked up something like 5 times by S&S (always got off, though...don't know how) and was arrested twice...it was def. time for that kid to go. It all just kinda happens by chance...

Yeah I lived in the Choates and I could not imagine having more fun.
