What's the best route?

go to a 4yr state school or go to a CCC and transfer into UCLA or UCB?

If you want to get into UCLA or UCB, attending a CCC is probably the better way. UCs give priority admission to CCC students and you save some money.

I'm wondering which one will have a bigger pay off

???? They all pay about the same - $0. CCC will be cheaper and you have a better shot at transferring.

i mean career wise which one would look better

If money is not an option: University
If you like individualized attention: CCC
If your high school record is impressive or adequate: University
If your an OOS but want to go to any Cal. University: CCC
The end result is the same.

I meant to say "If money is no object: University"

ccc -> cal

biggest payoff

this ndn is just trying to make money... lol

i say go to a 4 yr and save the top UCs for people who have a passion for learning

geez ilovecalifornia..why you gotta be so harsh?

If you know you'd like the top UCs...then definitely go to CCC...people who are motivated tend to do better there for various reasons and have higher chances of getting into the top UCs.

For some reason, I strongly doubt that both Cal and UCLA are schools known for a studentry that is enthusiastic about learning.

I already posted this in another thread, if you're looking for jobs or internships in careers such as consulting or i-banking, a community college background does not look good. It gives the guys who screen resumes a reason to weed out people, I had to experience that first hand.

why nspeds

Cal is the best public school in the nation with some very bright students. It's not Georgetown, but I'm sure you can find a considerable amount of students that care about learning and grades. The two are not exclusive of each other.

Agreed...I don't have a "passion" for learning...I have a passion for playing sports, watching espn, and doin fun *****.... school just happens to be the means to gain the $ which will allow me to continue to do these things. Lets face it...if college didn't get us a job I highly doubt many people would go

Depends on the major. 4 year state school will open a door to a sophmore internship which is great when applying to B-school. Its very difficult to get a sophmore internship(at a great company) at a CCC. I don't mean xeroxing copies for a local financial company. A program where students are actually taught about the industry instead of sought of as cheap labor.

But like the above poster said, some universities will give preference to CCC students such as the UCs. Since UCLA/UCB is your primary choices, i'd recommend CCC because it would be your best option. Try to get a few internships(this summer and the following) if you're a business major.

...and not once in this thread did I deny this claim.

I agree, try to get experience so that way your CC background may be overlooked. Join Doostang, it's a really great networking site with job postings. If you need an invite, pm me your email address.
