Is it better to transfer from Cal State or CC?
to
USC
Univ of Michigan (Ross)
UT Austin
UPenn
UC Berkeley
Univ of Illinois (Urbana)
NYU
and other colleges like that

Remember that public schools generally admit a lot more in-state than out, so unless you're willing to go to a CC in a particular state just to get into their flagship school, the odds are probably against you whether CC or Cal State.

For UCs, I've read that CC students get priority over all other applicants, so that may be a good route if you think you have what it takes to get into UCB.

For private schools, coming from a university gives you a little more credibility than a CC, however, all the schools you listed will require around a 3.5+ for university and 3.8+ for CC.

Best of luck :)

So is it harder for someone from a 4 year college to transfer to UC than someone who completes 2 year at CC?

if u go to a CSU an want to transfer to a UC its porbably harder...i suggest going to a CC first if u want to eventually tansfer to a UC

And do I still have chances to go to those out of state university if i go to a calstate?

Well, not necessarily harder per se, but perhaps fewer spots allocated for non-CC students. I'm not sure about UCB, but UCLA gives a pretty thorough set of data regarding transfer applicants on their website. Your best bet would be to check out UCB data/contact them to really get a better feel, unless you want to list your stats. There are plenty of UC applicants and such here who could probably help you out a lot better than I can.

What about schools other than UC's? Will it make a difference whether I go to cal state or CC at Calif? Which one is better?

And does it matter which cal state or cc i transfer from?

I think it's only from california community colleges. You have like next to no shot from a community college outside of cali.

well i either be going to cal state or community college at calif and I want to transfer to one of those colleges that I listed above. Let's exclude UCB for a sec, will cc still give me more opportunity than cal state?

AdamantineX, you really need to be specific about what college you want to start at. For example, San Jose State University has a transfer agreement with specific colleges and universities, and with specific majors at those colleges. http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/artic/all-school-to-school.html

For examplel, look at the SJSU-to-UC Berkeley transfer information. http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/artic/UCBERKELEY/templates.html

You also have to be very careful in reading information as to whether it pertains to a SJSU-to-UC transfer or a UC-to-SJSU transfer. Ultimately, you will have to contact the two schools involved, not CC.

AdamantineX, I know you mean well, but like so many others on CC, you seem to want someone to tell you EXACTLY what you need to do to get what you want. THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN !!! There just aren't any "exacts" with regard to college admissions.

Well I will be starting either at Cal State Northridge or SDSU (still waiting).
And yea, I just want to know whether or not I have chances to transfer to one of those colleges that I have listed above If i go to cal state =)

"San Jose State University has a transfer agreement with specific colleges and universities, and with specific majors at those colleges."

Just to clarify, you mean an articulation agreement; I didn't see anything on that site about what we usually are referring to when we say "transfer agreement," some kind of guaranteed transfer program where you can transfer if you meet certain requirements.

That site has a list of courses that will count for credit when you transfer.

You also can check the www.universityofcalifornia.edu website to see if there is a transfer program at a specific UC campus and any special agreements with specific CCs. There doesn't seem to be a lot of documentation online regarding agreements between UCs and CSUs.

For example, UC Davis apparently has a transfer admission agreement (TAA) with certain CCs... http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/educators/counselors/adminfo/transfer/advising/programs/davis.html

wha if i want to transfer to lets say usc, ut austin, umich or upenn
Is it better for me to go to cal state or cc?

If you think you can get a 3.5 or above in CSU then go ahead and atttend that college .. .. It's also depends on your major .. if your major is a popular major then you need to get at least a 3.8 to compete with other students or a 4.0 to make sure you still have a chance to go to the school.. I don't think it would be that easy to get a 3.8 in CSU ... but you can try .. just think about it before you decide what your decision is ... if you know you can get good grades and have a mind of determination to do it .. then doesn't matter where you go .. you will success ...

The chances doesn't depend on whether you attend CC or CSU but ... for you to figure out what's the best college, based on your ability and potential to obtain the highest GPA .

Forget about UMICH(ROSS) as they only accept 4% of students from outside the university of michigan, and I would assume they are already at top tier universities.

I want to major in accounting

well since you're only staying for 2 years it doesn't really matter if you go to a CSU or a CC. I went to a UC instead of a CC because i wanted the college experience of living in a dorm - the moment i stepped in my school I knew I was goign to eventually transfer out. However, I wanted to experience dorm life and my first year at a college. It probably would have been easier if i went to a CC (better grades, transfer agreements etc..) but I don't regret my decision because i've made many great friends and priceless memories. So, its really up to you to decide, there really isn't that much of a difference transferring from a CSU or a CC because you eventually want to get to somewhere else.

So you are saying that it is easier to get better grades at Community COllege, and will adcoms (other than UC's) know about this? Or are they just going to look transfers from csu the sam as the one from cc?
