Wow you really missed the mark on the SATs, I recommend getting yourself a test prep book. I increased my score from PSAT–>SAT by over 200 after studying one of those books.

i no when i saw my scores i almosted cryed what book do you recomdend

You should buy a book that teaches you how to spell - either that or sue the education system of your state for utterly failing you.

You guys are way too hard on this guy… Give him advice pertaining to his question. Don’t critique him for something he didn’t ask for. Anyways, his SAT score is well above the average score in my high school.

No it isn’t.

This kid is bad…

I don’t know, Doggie, it seems like a ton of the strong GPA individuals that I come across have bad SAT scores/IQs. I wouldn’t for a second think that someone with a rubbish SAT score would do poorly in something like accounting. They might not be able to comprehend reading or string together a sentence, but if they try they can memorize as well or better as more intelligent people. IMO.

Dunno, but memorization isn’t the way to go.

Whistle, “I wouldn’t for a second think that someone with a rubbish SAT score would do poorly in something like accounting. They might not be able to comprehend reading or string together a sentence, but if they try they can memorize as well or better as more intelligent people.”

You are completely wrong. The reading comprehension is very important in accounting, almost equally important to its principals. Without it, you will not be able to solve any problems in accounting. If you took accounting yourself, you should understand what I am talking about. BTW, people with rubbish SAT scores and low GPA cannot succeed in accounting. As you say, “GPA is King” :)

Samsont1–I teach accounting at the college level. I would strongly recommend that you have a back up plan. Given your SAT scores, I think accounting would be too difficult a major for you. Give it a try if you think that is really what you want to do. But have a back up plan, as I said.

I still don’t agree. I have very high SAT scores, and a weak GPA (under 3.5). People I know with higher GPAs than me are mostly less intelligent than me (although many are very intelligent). I have taken internet memorization tests and have confirmed that my memorizational ability is not significantly above par. I consistently see evidence that reinforces that people of average intelligence can outwork the next guy in order to earn strong GPAs.

Are you saying that this person would fail at accounting, or that they would simply not graduate with a strong GPA? This is an important distinction.

My experience has shown that people with this low SAT usually have difficulty passing accounting courses, i.e. usually fail. But even if they pass, their GPA is usually too low to be recruited by any national accounting firm.

If you graduate w/ an accounting degree and are looking for a job in a small town, maybe your GPA does not matter. Of course, you still have to get the degree.

Chill out guys, he’ll get into SUNY Albany and SUNY Buffalo at the very least. Even with those scores.

What courses do you teach? How do you know the SAT scores of students?
