I know that at some schools the average student may take many APs while at others, few students actually do take APs. However, what makes a guidance counselor tell colleges that you've chosen the MOST rigorous courseload possible as opposed to just a rigorous or average courseload? Do you have to take all APs offered at your school? Is there a certain percentage of honors/AP classes that you must have taken?

Thanks.

Most rigorous: Taking the hardest possible class each grade in every subject in high school.

Rigorous: Taking a bunch of more advanced classes, but not as much as the most rigorous schedule.

Average: Taking mostly regular courses, with maybe a couple of honors/AP classes thrown in.

There is no “percentage” that indicates someone is challenging themselves with their courseload. Your guidance counselor will know if the schedule you’ve taken is a challenging schedule at your school, and will convey that in his/her recommendation.
