What's the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

I find the human mind fascinating. I love to help people with problems and I like solving problems. I understand that a psychiatrist is a medical doctor. Is there a lot of math and science involved? Im not so good with chemistry and math though. I want to help people with their problems and also make a decent living. Are there any other career choices like this?

A psychologist goes to grad school. There are many different types, but it basically breaks down to those that are license eligible (can counsel people) and those who are not. A psychologist has a PhD. A psychiatrist goes to med school and spends the majority of their time in most instances prescribing and monitoring medication use. They have an MD. I am a child health psychologist who has been in private practice, a research environment in the military, and now teach at the university level. Feel free to pm me with any questions.
