What's the difference between "Computer Science" and "Computer Science and Engineering"?

I'm the doing the UC application and both majors show under Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. What's the difference and which should I pick? I plan on becoming a software engineer.

You can become a software engineer with either major, I am not sure which one would be more beneficial though. You can think of these majors as a spectrum: the computer science majors will learn primarily about software, electrical engineers will learn primarily about hardware, and “computer science and engineering” majors will learn a combination of both. You should think about whether or not learning about hardware as well as software is something important to you. Also, if you get into either program at ucla, it would be very easy to switch between those majors since they are very similar, so if you find out later you prefer one over the other it won’t/shouldn’t be a big deal.
