a liberal arts college and a liberal arts school within a university, such as a College of Arts and Sciences?

LACs are going to be very undergrad focused, for one...and they're typically all undergraduate (if not all, then the vast majority of attention goes to undergrads). The LAC will have a variety of programs and majors and such, but focus on a broad sort of general education...the idea is to focus on liberal arts.
My experience with large universities' colleges of arts and sciences is limited, but I've found that they're kind of like LACs in a university setting...but I might have had a different touring experience than others.

bump bump :-)

The liberal arts colleges within a university are not much like a regular liberal arts college. At the university setting, you will have large intro classes and most departments will have graduate students. What distinguishes the College of Letters and Science from the School of Business or the College of Agriculture for example, is the kinds of classes that are required to graduate with a degree from the specific college. The liberal arts school at the university is likely going to require a greater breadth of classes and less specialization than you will find in other schools at the university.
