What's the dumbest reason you applied/didn't apply to a school?

I almost didn't apply to USC because I was under the impression that they had a barbed-wire fence surrounding the campus.... but I changed my mind because the admissions officer that interviewed me told me that you didn't have to stay on campus because you could get out of the fence--and it definately didn't have barbed wire on it =) maybe that's why I didn't get more scholarship money. haha

I avoided probably all of "middle" America (mid-West, I suppose), because my counselor said that it was mostly isolated schools in small towns. For some reason, I took that as a reason to not apply anywhere there. Granted, my list was too big, and had to be cut down anyways.

I decided on Vanderbilt because it lacks diversity (i'm a minority).

i originally became interested in colorado 4 years ago because i liked their track and field uniforms.

and now it's one of the top schools in interested in.

I just remembered a decision I made a long long time ago:
I didn't apply to Princeton because the Eating Club things reminded me of fraternities and sororities.

Ironcially, I did apply to schools with actual Greek life.

sandybeach--- i think you were thinking of Hopkins!

I applied to Indiana because one night over the summer while I was away, my dad called me and asked me why i hadn't written any essays for college...

so i called him back an hour later stating that i'd finished my Indiana-bloomington application. because they didn't require recommendations, essays, or anything really.

Lol.

It's ok, I didn't apply to Princeton either because of the whole atmosphere of the place - an atmosphere contributed to mainly by my inability to imagine anything other than fat guys in suits when thinking of the eating clubs. xD

^^^Eating Clubs remind me of omelets somehow, lol.

I didn't apply to UPenn because when I had my interview, the interviewer began by saying "It's really not in that dangerous part of the city."

Hmmmm.

I applied to Princeton, even after I had gotten into my dream school EA, just because I had already finished the application and the guidance office wanted me to submit it because they wanted to see if I get in.

Will I go there even if I do get in? No. Was it a royal waste of money? Yes.

I canned my application to Rice after waiting until Winter Break. I had already finished up my other two apps in November (thanks to the UC deadline) and near the end of December I told myself, "Screw it. I'm done."

i only applied to schools with the common app, laziness

I knew I'd get in to UC Irvine, ranked 44nd in USNWR. So I didn't apply to any college ranked lower than 44, other than Tulane (but their personal application wasn't a real application.)

If the school didn't require an essay or SAT scores, I didn't apply. xD

I didn't apply to Amherst because it was near too many all girl's schools. I didn't like those odds ;-)

haha, there were several stupid reasons for me.

For these, I simply didn't have enough time or screwed myself organizationally.
Brown: 5 unique essays, 2 weeks to do them.
Columbia: turned out the deadline was a week before what I had in my spreadsheet.
UIUC: same as above

OSU: I should've applied since it actually has a nice engineering program, but didn't because it was in Corvallis...
WUSTL: The site and it's lackluster design gave me a bad impression
Johns Hopkins: sketchy neighborhood and overcompetitive

I didn't apply to the University of Chicago because I was flustered by all of your excellent intellectually intimidating essays that made mine seem bland even when I spoke with personality which ultimately led me to conclude that Chicago was going to be too purely academic for me.

applied to samford because if you say it fast people think youre saying "stanford."

ok, not really.

Applied to Washington & Lee just to stop them from sending stuff. I didn't send my other credentials though, but they did stop sending me stuff.

Applied to SFSU + SJSU because it was free. :D

Cal Lutheran is still sending me stuff... Maybe I should apply! xD

Oh, Knox College kept asking me to apply too. One of their students actually called me, and another surveyor called me too. It was about to apply, but the fact that they bugged me during dinner turned me off.

I SO LOGICAL! I HAS GREAT REASONS! :D

university of pugent sound i didnt apply to just because i thought the name sounded dumb... also vanderbilt bothered me because it sounded too uptight high class... like say vanderbilt outloud with an english accent, you'll get it. i didn't apply to usc because my parents went to ucla and hate usc, and also because of the whole "university of spoiled children" thing, which is actually kind of true... the majority of those people are loaded. $
