Preppy? Uptight?

Depends on your friends. There’s a mix of pretty much everything.

There’s super academically driven people who can be uptight, mostly first-year pre-med types. But they always stop being pre-med after a year anyways…

There’s preppy, quirky/hipster, girl-next-door, sorority girl, nerdy/geeky …

I think you can find pretty much any type of person, and what you “feel” on campus will be affected by your group(s) of friends and what activities you join. Most everyone on campus has academics as their first priority, whether they show it or not (I am quite jealous of the people who can seemingly have an academic life, social life, and time to sleep without breaking a sweat…)

I just want to reiterate how ~a lot~ of the “feel” you get on campus can be influenced by your friends. When I was a first year student, I hung out with more of the pre-med crowd because I was a science major, though never a pre-med student myself. Those are some high strung, stressed out, grade obsessed folks. Once I got my footing on campus socially, my main group of friends were much more laid back and we always made time for (dare I say it?) fun.

That being said, welles10 is correct in that people tend to focus on academics. But how the people around you handle the academic stress can really have an effect on your tint of Wellesley.

As a side note, I’m not sure how a campus feel can be “preppy,” unless you’re asking if everyone dresses that way. And the answer is most definitely NO, at least not during the week while classes are in session. Everyday, in almost every class, you will see a wide gamut: from those who just rolled out of bed and barely pulled on sweats, to those dressed to the nines - usually because it’s close to laundry time.

Second all that’s said above More than anything else, classes that u take, ur friends and the dorm u live in compose ur “feel”

What others have said is true. It depends on who you surround yourself with. There are the uptight pre-med students who live in the science center (but even they are quite lovable and can teach you where the hidden 5th floor shower is), the pre-senators (who aspire to be like Clinton or Albright or…), the Peace and Justice studies gay-rights activists (who work at The Hoop Cafe or El Table) and more… Common thread: everyone cares about grades.

Preppy? – Not so much. It’s a joke among students that by the time you graduate, you’ll own a pair of pearl earrings. But I don’t think pearls are so preppy… They’re just classy and versatile. While I’ve seen a couple of preppy dressers on campus, I think Princeton reigns supreme in preppiness.

Haha…I still don’t have a pair of pearl earnings or anything pearl for that matter… graduation is right around the corner too…hmmm

^ Thanks for the responses, guys. It’s comforting to know that there are a bunch of different personalities there. :)

Random but I already own a pair of pearl earrings, haha. I don’t really see pearls as preppy either. Like verbivorous said, pearls are “classy and versatile” in my opinion :)
