What's the Georgetown application like?

Since Georgetown doesn't take the common app, could someone please tell me about it in general terms - essay requirements, anything different/unusual, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Its definitely on the lengthier side. There is one short essay as well as 2 longer ones. There is also an interview required with the application. Something I found interesting is that they also requested a photo of yourself. Hope this helps.

^Thanks. Do the essays change from year to year?

Photo thing is interesting - I had not heard of that.

That I don’t know. I can tell you that one of your longer essay prompts changes based on which college you are applying to. They are all pretty open ended though so you can run with the topic.

Thanks, again! Ds doesn’t seem to be too daunted by extra essays. We shall see how he feels about that once he is into the thick of things in the fall. It’s hard to know how many schools one should apply to.

I only did five and hated the extra essays as I tried to put my heart into all of them. It’s a stressful process as I’m sure you know but it doesn’t really hit until the deadline starts to loom ever closer.

It sucks. Limited and Rigid. Utilize the Additional Information section to upload a more lengthy EC profile.

^Wow. Thank for the heads-up! Do you just mean that there aren’t any places for “outside the box” ECs?

How long does the application normally take?

The literal application took like 20 minutes. The essays, on the other hand… Well writing my essays took around two hours (all three of them), but I spent like a month thinking about what I would write.

The application will be available for download sometime in June. Download a copy early so you’ll have plenty of time look it over.
