What's the most fun thing you have done at MIT?

The question is pretty simple. What is the most exciting or captivating thing you have participated in, curricular or extracurricular.

played with space robots, had dinner with an astronaut, and other things as part of the Zero Robotics program

got to slice up planaria and watch them regenerate

[redacted]

learn to sail and scuba dive

conceiving and building my own project for 6.UAP (~senior project/thesis for course 6)

taking a behind-the-scenes tour of Logan airport

[more redacted]

[redacted]

:)

But um I really liked the 6.046 takehome exam. I didn’t think I would say this but it was actually a truly wonderful experience. 6.046 might be the most challenging material and the most learning I’ve gotten, and being able to truly demonstrate that learning was an incredibly rewarding experience. I ended up with one of the top scores on that exam, after truly pouring my heart into it for about a week. It isn’t often that I pour my heart into something and then it works. The experience revitalized me, I think.

Hanging out with friends, just drinking and playing board games.

Painting cows around the dorm and hearing people talk about them, compliment them, and wonder where they came from. And then one of my friends planning to maybe get one tattooed, which is just, wow. I did not expect my art to do that or go there. Now that I know that it can I am much more open to trying to take it places.

Reading the comments and emails that came in after the Meltdown blog post. Going from feeling so empty and alone to feeling like I have an army behind me. Knowing that my writing can help people and change lives, and that I have such a power.

Waiting for 6.005 p-sets to get posted because I actually enjoyed them that much.

Getting my genome sequenced for free (in progress).

One of the prefrosh I called during the admitted students telethon, who basically followed all my footsteps but EPIC, getting a first author paper in Nature a few years later.

Coming back to Random after being away on vacation and feeling that accompanying feeling of yes, I am home. And the same feeling walking across the Harvard Bridge and tasting the wind bouncing off the Charles.

My boyfriend. Finding calm and stability in my romantic life for the first time ever, complete acceptance with all cards on the table. Not needing to hide anything or be anything. Looking over sometimes on a walk or in the movie theater and feeling amazed that this other person loves me so much, and hasn’t let go, and that he is mine to love.

One friend has been tasked with taking photos of all the murals in Random Hall. When we walked down from the roofdeck (after taking some photos of his chainmaille projects), we noticed some science cows floating around at the top of the stairwell. It was very exciting :)

:D

Underground Capture the Flag. Sounds nerdy, but I have never run that fast in my life.

+1
I participated during my CPW and Rush, and now I’m a brother of the frat that runs it (Alpha Delta Phi). I’ve coordinated CTF the last 3 times it has occurred, and I plan to continue running it until I graduate.

Other cool things:
Indoor skydiving/trampoline dodgeball/shooting range during Rush
Actual skydiving!!!
Being a varsity athlete and chilling with the guys on the team
Late night study/procrastination/philosophical parties with friends/frat brothers
Going out into Boston for movies/dinner/etc
7.012 with Eric Lander and 5.13 with Tim Jamison
[redacted] x3
Frat retreats
UROP, currently helping my postdoc write part of a paper for submission

Also, Athena chairing :D

Sat in multiple lectures and then talked to the inventor of the inflationary theory

Making my own hologram from scratch was really fun!

Made my own PCB speakers which worked, and then put together several of them to make an entire symphony using speakers built by students. This was part if a seminar and it was a lot of fun!

Baking and cooking things with my friends and playing music is something fun that we do consistently.
