What's the optimum date to take ACT for a junior?

What’s the best time to take ACT for a natural test taker who is taking advance math and science courses?

which level of Math are you currently taking?
Have you taken some practice tests? are there rooms for improvement?

If you’ve already done Algebra II, you can really take it whenever you feel ready. But I recommend doing practice tests and then taking it in February. That way you can retake it April/June if necessary.

Taking Calculus. Done some PSAT & SAT practice online but not for ACT yet.

Do some prep, take some practice tests, and if you are scoring where you want . . . get it done.

people has different opinions on when to take the ACT.
IMO, I think you and your child are the best people to know. Take the practice tests to see whether he/she is ready. Look into the child’s schedule to see when he/she will have more free time and no other conflicts… My friend’s DD who is now at MIT finished her tests in 10th grade, but she was in one of those Math teams.

My D2 in junior took the September test. It is the best time as there is little school work in the beginning of the semester. Also, it is right after the practice over the summer.

The one time I do not recommend for Juniors to take the test is in December. It falls too close to final exams, and students need their brain cells and time focused on semester grades instead of ACT numbers.
Otherwise, I think February is the latest that a Junior should take the test for the first time. Ideally taking it early in 11th grade (or April/June of 10th grade) is a great place to get those first time jitters out of the way. Plus, an earlier test gives you more time to identify issues that may not surface from simply taking a practice test.

He is thinking June 10th as he’ll be done with exams by June 1st. If he needs to take it again then that would be in October of senior year. Would that matter for EA or ED?

I recommend February so that April is available for retesting if necessary. Then May and June can be used for SAT subject tests. Good luck!

With enough time to study and retake during junior year if they aren’t happy with their first score. Try to get all testing done junior year, as it makes finalizing a college list and fall of senior year a lot less stressful.

@WorryHurry411 Why don’t you check with the colleges for EA/ED ACT result deadline? I agree with everyone that ideally the student really wants all testing done by junior year.

Thank you
