Whats the percentage of people that dorm? Do most people dorm at Harvard and why?

I don't have the exact %, but its almost 100% for first-years, and over 95% for upperclassmen. First-years live together in Harvard Yard, upperclassmen live in one of the 12 Houses (9 along Charles River, 3 about half-mile away in the Radcliffe Quad).

(1) Apartments are SCARCE and EXPENSIVE in Cambridge.
(2) Harvard dorms are actually pretty charming (I thought so, anyway)
(3) Camraderie, friendship, just general late-night bull*****tin' with fellow classmates is an integral part of college life.

Almost 100%? I would think there would be alot of commuters because alot of applicants are from massachusetts. I thought more students would commute because of its expensive dorms.

No... most students do not communte at Harvard. Harvard guarantees housing for 4 years, and nearly everyone takes advantage of it.

How about reason #4--freshmen (and I think sophomores) are required to live on-campus except in special situations.

Can you provide proof of that? I don't see anywhere where it says you are Required to live on campus.

You do need permission to live off-campus (which fact is in the handbook). The FDO doesn't like to grant it to freshmen. The quote is:

"Occasionally, Harvard admits to the freshman class a small number of students who are granted nonresident status at the time of admission."

Phoenixy has it right. I just heard at our town's information session that Harvard expects first-years to live on campus, guaranteeing four years of on-campus housing to everyone.

Don't respond to this guy. He just goes around each college's forums and trolls for responses. He has been trolling for responses in the dorming thread in College Life also.

This guy is such a troll and he is so amusing.
