I've been reading through this forum and people are saying that they will retake the ones that they did poorly on...but don't colleges still see your old scores? I've been told that for the Subject tests, you can't choose which ones to send to colleges, and that they see all your scores even if you retake some of them.

To get a higher score.

No…I want to know if retaking it helps make up for your older, lower scores or not (or if it doesn’t really help much)

What if you just had a bad day? (food poisoning, headache, stress, etc.)
What if you studied for a few more months and are more knowledgeable about the subject?
Colleges just want to see the highest score.

How would improvement not help? The score submission policy for every school is different, try looking up the actual score policies of the schools you are interested in rather than take the claims made by other posters as truth.

Score Choice can be used on Subject Tests as well. Some schools, however, do not want their applicants to use this option. In either case, schools will consider the highest score (but may be influenced by lower scores).

Do colleges know you use score choice?

No, they do not; it’s up to the applicant to follow the schools’ requirements.
