What's the pros and cons of big and small schools?

Personally, I prefer big boarding schools such as Exeter, or Andover which consist of approx 1,000 students. But I’m also considering applying to smaller schools like St. Paul’s. what are the pros and cons of going to a big school, and the pros and cons of going to a small school?

thx!

SPS isn’t considered a small school, a small school would be like Cate or Thacher, with 200~ students.

Big School
Pros~ Lot’s of different activites, people and courses. Big campus. Can make lots of friends cus there are so many people/ breeze through social groups.
Cons~ Might feel a bit lost in a sea of people sometimes. Kind of hard to adjust to for someone used to a small community.
Small School
Pros~ Everyone knows you. Great recommendations cuz everyone knows ya. Tight knit community. The sports teams and stuff they do have are usually pretty good.
Cons~ Everyone knows you. Depending on which school, not a lot of diversity when it comes to certain things like foods & sports teams. At a small school unlike at a large school they can’t afford to have tons of teams cuz there are not a lot of people to go around.

  • NOTE, I’m kind of biased cuz I love small schools.
